On April 6, 2918, we lost a dear friend and benefactor, Heide Felton. Heide was a true believer in promoting healthy development and preventing behavioral problems. She and her husband, Matthew, were among the original investors who created the University of Washington’s first Endowed Professorship in Prevention, held by Professor J. David Hawkins from 1999 through 2017. That professorship provided an important foundation for the development of the community randomized trial of Communities that Care (CTC). Later, in 2014 when we needed resources to establish the Center for CTC, Heide personally guided strategic planning and hosted lovely events with invited friends and colleagues that raised the funds needed to launch the Center for Communities That Care. Beyond that, Heide Felton was a lovely, compassionate, enthusiastic friend and mentor who made one believe that dreams can be achieved through smart, hard, caring work. She was quick to recognize progress, achievement and music she liked with a simple “Wonderful!” She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in Communities That Care every day.
