Remembering Michael Arthur

The Center for Communities That Care was saddened to learn recently that Michael W. Arthur, PhD passed away on March 17 after a battle with cancer. Michael was an integral part of the prevention community and was instrumental in helping to shape the Social Development Research Group (SDRG) and the National Prevention Network since 1991. He was a critical investigator and collaborator on the Community Youth Development Study, the randomized trial of CTC. It’s likely not an overstatement to say it would not have happened without him. He was also instrumental in figuring out how to develop the CTC measurement system of community risk and protection that provides communities with profiles that they can use for prevention planning. The resulting published article has been cited over 1000 times and the CTC Youth Survey is used across the nation and around the world. Michael contributed to 57 publications during his time with SDRG. We will miss Michael’s easy going manner, thoughtful problem solving and keen sense of humor.
