SUMMARY:CTC Monthly Series: The Cannabis Landscape: Public Health and Polic
 y Implications
DESCRIPTION:RECORDING\nSLIDES\nThis presentation will provide a background 
 in how cannabis products have evolved in the wake of legalization in many 
 U.S. states\, including descriptions of different modes of use\, changing 
 THC content\, and market trends. The problem of unregulated hemp-derived p
 roducts\, such as Δ8-THC\, will be touched on. The presenter will describ
 e how cannabis use impacts physical and mental health\, who is at greatest
  risk of harm\, and how policy changes and consumer education could help r
 educe risks. \nOBJECTIVES\n\n 	At the end of the presentation\, attendees
  will be able to:\nrecognize at least 3 types of cannabis products availab
 le in legal  adult consumer markets in the U.S. \n 	describe three ways 
 in which cannabis use affects health \n 	discuss different cannabis polic
 ies that could reduce harm from use \n 	describe at least 2 things to con
 sider when designing consumer education campaigns \n\nFACILITATOR\nSharon
  Garrett\, MPH\, MA is a Research Scientist at the University of Washingto
 n’s Addictions\, Drug &amp\; Alcohol Institute (ADAI). Since 2012\, she 
 has been an active member of ADAI’s Cannabis Education &amp\; Research P
 rogram (CERP)\, where she has collaborated on various projects exploring p
 ublic health impacts of cannabis legalization in WA State. She has contrib
 uted to projects funded by the WA State I-502 dedicated marijuana fund to 
 better understand adult cannabis use in the context of legalization\, incl
 uding focus groups with adult cannabis users\, cannabis retail store staff
 \, and parents who use cannabis. In 2022\, this team evaluated policy opti
 ons for reducing harms related to high-THC products.
